This week in Phonics, Blue Class has been busy becoming sound detectives. They have been exploring brand new letter sounds and diving into the exciting world of initial sounds, meaning the sounds that words begin with. Using a mix of colourful picture cards, games, and hands-on activities, the pupils practiced listening carefully and matched each image to the sound it starts with.
Blue Class got stuck into a wonderfully messy and creative Squiggle While You Wiggle session, and this time, they used paint to bring their movements to life.
The pupils began by using their flipper flappers to practice big and bold up and down movements, helping to build strength and coordination in their arms and shoulders. Then, they brought that energy to the table, where they made lines going up, up, up and down, down, down, both on paper and in sensory trays.
Everyone loved exploring the texture and colour, and it was a brilliant way to support early writing skills through movement and sensory play. For many of the learners, this kind of hands-on experience helps make mark-making meaningful and fun.
