North East Ambition
Harry Watts Academy working in partnership with North East Ambition
Harry Watts Academy is proud to be teaching ‘Careers and Personal Development’ in both the primary and secondary parts of our school.
To support the delivery of ‘Careers’ in school we were very pleased to be part of the Primary Pilot; that was delivered by ‘North East Ambition’. North East Ambition supported 70 schools in the North East of England to help young people in the region make informed career choices. The Primary Pilot is a key part of the LEP's Strategic Economic Plan.
Building on Past Success
The Career Benchmarks: Primary Pilot builds on the success of the North East LEP’s Good Career Guidance Benchmark Pilot, which was delivered in partnership with the Gatsby Foundation and 70 secondary schools and colleges from across the region.
Transformational and championed by government, the benchmarks are today part of statutory guidance for schools and colleges and provide a framework for delivering high quality careers education, information and guidance across England.
Creating a National Framework
We now want to stay ahead of national best practice by introducing a similar framework suited to children in primary education.
This will enable our schools to broaden pupils’ horizons, raise their aspirations and support them to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to be successful, regardless of their starting point.

Our Year 1 Report highlights what’s been achieved so far, and how it’s helping primary-age children learn about the wide-ranging possibilities open to them in future. You can read the report here.
The Career Benchmarks: Primary Pilot is supported by funding from the European Social Fund, EY foundation and the Local Growth Fund.
