Sensory Storytime - Exploring the School with all the Senses
Return to Latest News
This week in Blue Class at Harry Watts Academy, the pupils went on a sensory journey to explore who they are and what makes their school special. The areas they explored were:
Who's in the school? The pupils started by looking into mirrors to see themselves and think about who is part of their school community. It was a lovely way to recognise familiar faces and celebrate belonging.
Morning routines with a torch. To represent morning time, they used a torch to shine light like the sun rising. This helped them understand the start of their day and how routines help them get ready to learn.
Sensing cereal. The pupils explored cereal using their senses: touching, smelling, and tasting it. This helped them connect with their breakfast routine and talk about what they enjoy in the mornings.
School uniforms. Everyone looked at their school uniforms, noticing the colours and textures. It helped them feel proud of being part of Harry Watts Academy and ready for learning.
Blue Class had a brilliant time using sight, touch, taste, and smell to explore everyday experiences. Sensory stories like this help them to build understanding, confidence, and joy in learning.
