Caterpillar Creations: Growing Green in the Forest
Return to Latest News
Last week in Forest School, Lion Class had a fantastic time making grass caterpillars using soil, grass seeds, and old tights. Each pupil filled a section of a tight leg with a mixture of soil and grass seeds, then tied it off to form the caterpillar’s body. They shaped the segments by tying string between sections, creating a wriggly, bumpy effect. Googly eyes and pipe cleaners were added for faces and antennae, bringing each caterpillar to life with its own quirky charm.
The pupils loved getting their hands messy and learning about how seeds grow, and they’re now eagerly waiting to see their caterpillars sprout green “fur” in the coming days. It was a brilliant blend of creativity, nature, and science - all in the heart of the forest.
