Elm and Cedar Class Complete Work Experience
Return to Latest News
On Friday, pupils from Elm and Cedar Class had the pleasure of visiting Beamish Open Air Museum to complete work experience. The pupils started in the bakery, where they talked with the staff who showed them how they bake the bread. Then, they had the opportunity to make bread buns. After this, they visited a craft centre and painted a small clay tile. Whilst there, the pupils asked some interesting questions and discovered that the craft room is run as a charity, and doesn't charge the attendees, who are mainly older people that enjoy art.
They saw how the animals at Beamish were looked after and explored the retail side of working life by visiting an antique toyshop. There, they found that in the past broken toys weren’t discarded as they may be nowadays, but instead, they were mended and passed on through generations. At the end of the day, the pupils visited Masonic Hall, where they got to see lovely old costumes and were even allowed to dress up in them.
All of the staff that they encountered from Beamish and Kathryn from NECA expressed what a pleasure it had been spending time with the pupils from Harry Watts Academy and how polite and well-mannered they had been at every activity. Well done to everyone for a fabulous day.
