Last Friday Pine Class had a lovely trip out to Sunderland Winter Gardens and the library.

Before we explored the Winter Gardens, we went to listen to a local author, Lauren Osborne, tell us all about her book, why she wrote it and what inspired her to write and illustrate her own book. She explained that she was autistic and that growing up at times she had found things hard. She told us that she had struggled with people not recognising or accepting her differences and that had inspired her to write her book ‘It’s ok to be me’. She then read her book to us and we then did a fun activity. We each drew a self-portrait and then listed positive attributes and interests we all have and we celebrated and embraced our differences.

After that we enjoyed exploring the library and museum and we were delighted to find quite a few interesting facts about our very own name sake ‘Harry Watts’ including a long boat that he had discovered and some of his medals.

Finally we sat in glorious sunshine in Mobray Park for a picnic. Another lovely memory for Pine class.
