On Friday 5th June, Blue Class celebrated World Oceans Day with an exciting and memorable learning experience. The pupils were thrilled to arrive at school and discover a canoe set up in their classroom, sparking their curiosity and enthusiasm for the day ahead.

To begin, they shared the story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' by Sarah Roberts. This engaging tale follows Stanley, a plastic bag that ends up in the ocean, where sea creatures mistake him for food. Through the story, the pupils explored the dangers of ocean pollution and how it affects marine life. They quickly recognised that Stanley was causing harm and making the animals unhappy, and they felt relieved when a human rescued the turtle that had swallowed him, thinking he was a jellyfish.

Following the story, the pupils had the opportunity to climb aboard the canoe and explore the ocean themselves. Surrounding the boat, they discovered a variety of sea creatures alongside litter scattered throughout the water. Their mission was to clean up the ocean by collecting the rubbish and rescuing animals that had become trapped in debris.

The pupils worked brilliantly as a team, enthusiastically removing waste and ensuring all sea creatures were safe. It was wonderful to see their cooperation, problem-solving, and growing awareness of how we can all help protect our oceans.
